initially I loved this novel, and enjoyed the good, tense, isolated-cabin-in-the-woods-cut-off-from-civilisation approach. When the monster started reavealing its presence things were boding well and I thought I was in for a cracker of a story, then...well...it just sorta fizzed out...The middle section of the book was slow and relied too much on Wikipedia research and rehashed 'squatch' 'facts' and really just kinda dragged.
The pace picked up again in the third section, but the big reveal was a big disappointment and the end was a bit of a mess.
Worthwhile reading if you like Bigfoot stories - certainly not a bad read - but I certainly would not be writing home about this one.

Creature Shadow of the Sasquatch James M Vesely 9781475918496 Books Reviews
Creature Shadow of the Sasquatch is a good but sad (tragic) read. The characters are symbolic of many of the squatchers and cryptid fans today. The plot is a simple one four friends initially go fishing at a remote lake on their annual fishing trip, where they encounter a territorially jealous male sasquatch trying to protect its turf and family. One of them has a terrifying encounter while on a nighttime run to the outhouse, which changes his life.
Later at home, the man who came face-to-face with the male sasquatch organizes a private squatch hunting party comprising himself, a zoologist, who is his best friend, a lovely widowed professor anthropology, a world-famous, octagenarian Russian professor cryptozoology, a septagenarian Indian guide, who receives mental messages from the male sasquatch and the guides daughter, who is a former schoolteacher. The private expedition has no problems finding the sasqautches, as the male sasquatch searches out each member of the expedition in apparent attempts to scare and warn them away, but the searchers do not heed the male sasquatche's warnings..
The ending of this story is sad. The anthropology professor tries to help the famale sasquatch give birth a la Doctor Po, but the baby squatch dies anyways. Lucas, the money behind the expedition and a Viet Nam vet who lost part of his arm to a landmine, is determined to become rich and famous by shooting the male sasquatch, which won't leave them alone but does not try to harm them until Lucas goes hunting for it. Lucas manages to fatally shoot the male sasquatch, but the female sasquatch attacks him in return and Mike has to shoot the female sasquatch to save Lucas's life before he is ripped apart in the air. The biggest loser in this is the juvenile sasquatch, who is orphaned and left alone when the squatchers return to civilization two days ahead of schedule albeit with solid photos of the sasquatches and samples of the sasquatch baby's afterbirth.
The sad moral of this story is that somethings, like sasquatch, are better left alone and in peace within the natural order rather than people trying to do the ethically correct thing by trying to artificially protect them from humanity. Ironically, the sasquatch family was almost totally destroyed by the do-gooders in Creature Shadow of the Sasquatch.
If you like Saquatch stories as I do, this was a decent read, it combined alot of info about the creature into a good story. That is, until last quarter of the book. Then the whole story which had been pretty plausible until then, just goes to pieces.
Liked the story, hated the ending.
An excellent read and I highly recommend this book to anyone.
This is not just a book for bigfoot fans but the story line is very suspensful.
It does provide a lot of interesting information about bigfoot critters. You
certainly do not have to believe in them to really enjoy this book. The
ending is incredible. You won't see it coming.
Interesting book with fact and s good storyline. Nice change from some of the gory types of Bigfoot books. Sadly is does show the flaws of humanity as I find it all too plausible of an ending
I rarely spend this much for fiction. The sample was good, the rest of the book....not so much. If you have never heard any Bigfoot stories or debates, or theories, or anything else Bigfoot, this is the book for you. It is pretty much ALL in here. Over and over in some cases. Big let down.
The book gets a little slow in places, but is a good read for Sasquatch fans. Rather than the usual bigfoot horror, this is a story about how both sides made mistakes.
It begins at a cabin in the Canadian wilderness. The friends are menaced by a male sasquatch until they decide to leave. Two of the group go back to find out more, with two Indian guides and a researcher. The reason for the harassment becomes apparent. However, the ending is tragic.
Recently, I've been on a bigfoot binge and this was recommended by a website Myuserid introduced me to called Goodreads.com. The only major issue I have with this book? It was marketed wrong. Of course, when we think of fictional Bigfoot novels, they tend to be in the monster/horror section, but this one? Not even remotely. Truth be told, it is a drama story with strong scientific foundations that even the most mundane can understand (like myself). Just as Meg was supported by cryptozoogical evidence, so is this. James M. Vesely did a wonderful job researching pretty much the entire history of Bigfoot around the Earth.
In regards to the story, it is captivating. You get a true sense of each character as they are fleshed out on levels we can em-pathetically understand and relate to. Ever shrouded in mystery and suspense is the Sasquatch, recounted in this tale as Boq. Ultimately, this is a dramatic tale of discovery, and where the boundaries of good and evil lie within the human, not the Boq. The ending left me sad. I honestly was tearing up in the last two chapters. If a book can provoke this kind of reaction, then I say the author accomplished exactly what he set out to do- make a riveting story that will be memorable throughout your life. I can honestly say I will always think of this whenever the subject of Bigfoot comes up.
